Somebody talk me out of this, it’s cheap enough to almost be an impulse purchase. Even if it does shit the bed when the smog tests come around, I can get $1500 back from the state (but it won’t!)
No, it’s not going to be a daily car, just something to play with on the weekends, trips to the hiking/camping trail , IKEA trips, or just general stupidity.

Don't look to me for help. These things were awesome. A practical combination of American road yacht and European lounge chair. The turbo engine is of mild concern but since LS swaps for these were so common then who cares?

Turbo, and a stick? Do it. Piston slap is a thing, but usually just annoying and not actually hurting it too much.
Those never ever show up for sale around me, I’m jealous
If only EssExTee could be so grossly incandescent

This is the wrong website to go to if you want to be talked out of buying a cheap Volvo wagon.

Have you driven it? I have had three, a 1982, a 1987 and a 1992. They are tractors and perform and handle as such. The turbo will help some, but they are every far removed from any modern sense of performance. That said you can slide the back end out more easily than any pick up I have ever owned. And you can fold the seats down and make sweet love to your special lady. What were we talking about again?

That’s an interesting counterpoint to the turbobrick mist in my eyes . I live in rural suburbia where it’s going to spend time bombing up/down unpaved roads so I guess the tractor-like nature isn’t that big of a deal killer. Plus there’s always the rally school option.
How is it like working on a 240? Is it as easy as people say it is?

Yeah, it’s easy to work on, except the suspension is a pain in the ass. You can climb in the engine bay, basically. They are pretty simple. I’m sure the turbo adds a bit of complication. The last one I had I bought cheap for nostalgic reasons and I quickly traded it for a rusted out 1985 Nissan 720 pickup. It was the right choice.

I’ve never owned a turbo, but I have driven one a lot, just to be clear. I have had a couple turbo P80 wagons and they are miles ahead in comfort, speed, handling and ease of modification. They can be made fast really easily and don’t have rust problems. I like the 240's, it was my first car, but I don't think I'd have another.

That’s cheap as shit for a running, stick, turbo wagon and our 740 Turbo made it over 300K with minimal maintenance so I don’t see why not...I would do it myself if I had the time and was in the area :3

Do it!! My 85 Jag is pretty slow too so I pretty much floor it most of the time. I Really have no trouble keeping up with traffic.
It’s a nice foil to the MINI and GTI. I bought it for the odd evening errands and weekend drives but somehow managed to put over 5000 miles on it in the first year.
